“Families that play together, stay together.” is an old saying. Our western living constantly pushes us towards individualism and isolation as a direct result of everything being about me as the consumer. My rights, my wants etc. This is neither healthy for society’s general populous nor for Christians. It’s symptoms can be seen in divided families, parenting breakdown and youth issues a-plenty to name a few.
Doing Life Together requires time - Yours… Lets make this expression of church life the priority it should be.
The Bible never describes salvation or God’s love for us or the work of the Holy Spirit in us, purely with an individualistic view. ie. 'What does it means for me?' Rather, God’s presence in the world and our lives always has a broader view to do with a people - His people - that he is constantly gathering and building (and refining). God is at work in me because he wants to produce something in us. God is corporate in his dealings with us. God Himself is community by nature. Trinity; The One true God, Father Son & Spirit dwelling in unity.

I am disturbed when I see a soft type of Christianity that has come into the Church of the living God over the years. A type of Christianity that adds the comforting aspects of God on top of our existing lifestyle; that has the feel-good factors but without the internal requirements and do-good responses. A type of Christianity that does not demand anything of us but rather does everything for us. Where one only feels God is being decent if the music and coffee is good, the sermon isn’t too long, and we only have to go to church & prayer meetings when you feel like it. “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. - Jeremiah 2:13 NIV

All of us need to remember to make room for God in our lives. Not just to let Him in, but even more so - to give Him something to work with. This message looks at the Shunamitte Woman and how she made room for God in her life by making a room physically for Elisha. Listen to this message on MP3. 20min 2.3MB |
