Kids Church Impacting the Community |

Every kid loves getting presents, so Park City Kids Church decided to give
Christmas gifts to the children at Women’s Refuge.
Part of the program for Kids Church
in 2006 was to impact the community. And
the kids (and their parents) really took up the challenge and impressed
everyone involved by really focussing outwards.
The original idea was to deliver Christmas presents to
the Open Home Foundation, however, that had to be adjusted as another group in
the church were doing that so we changed our target to the Women’s Refuge.
The children were asked to bring along presents for the
Women’s Refuge with whether the present was for a boy or
girl and what age it would be most suitable for written on the outside. One member of kids church was talking to
their friend from school about the project and their friend gave several
presents for the cause also!
The project was great for opening up discussions for
the kids about giving to others. For
example, how would they feel if they were to be given an old doll with one arm
missing?
There was a small Christmas tree where all the
presents could be placed, and it soon became apparent that the tree was too
small! Between 20 and 25 presents were
collected in the end, plus a few extra presents donated by the church.
The presents were delivered to the Women’s Refuge
before Christmas and many children had a brighter Christmas thanks to the
efforts of the Kids Church
members. |
